Obong Cave which is also known as Ubong Cave is a captivating natural landmark located in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental. This limestone cave system comprises three distinct caves offering visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Accessible via the Bacolod South Road, the cave is approximately 202 kilometers from Bacolod City making it a feasible day trip for adventurers and history enthusiasts alike.

A Natural Wonder

The Obong Cave system features both dry and wet caves each with its own unique characteristics. The dry caves are easily accessible and are known for their flat floors and natural lighting making them suitable for casual exploration. In contrast, the wet cave requires a boat ride to access and is best visited during low tide. Inside, visitors can marvel at the impressive stalactites and stalagmites formations that have developed over centuries.

Historical Significance

Beyond its natural allure, Obong Cave holds historical importance as a site used during World War II. In 1942, Captain Jesus A. Villamor aboard the US submarine USS Gudgeon that landed at Ubong Point and utilized the cave as a command post supplying food and arms to local guerilla fighters. This strategic use of the cave underscores its role in the region’s wartime history.

How To Get There?

Location: Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, Visayas, Philippines

  • By Car: From Bacolod City, drive south along the Bacolod South Road heading towards Hinoba-an. The journey covers approximately 190 kilometers and takes about 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic conditions. Upon reaching Hinoba-an, proceed to Barangay Bacuyangan. From there, a short boat ride will take you to the cave. 
  • By Commute: From Bacolod City, take a Ceres Bus bound for Hinoba-an at the Bacolod City South Terminal. The bus ride lasts about 4 to 5 hours with fares ranging from ₱200.00 to ₱300.00. Once in Hinoba-an, take a habal-habal to reach Barangay Bacuyangan where a boat can be arranged to take you to the cave.
