In November 2025, Davao City will begin offering free bus rides using 10 newly acquired city buses. This is part of an effort to ease transport woes and benefit commuters. These buses will operate under the Davao City Interim Bus Service (DIBS) and aim to strengthen public transport access during peak hours.

The city government reported that these 10 buses will be allocated across multiple routes under DIBS although the exact route list is awaiting approval from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). Each bus is expected to carry modern features such as GPS, CCTV cameras, bicycle racks, and more, aiming for a comfortable and efficient ride. The buses are scheduled to arrive around September 2025 with deployment to begin in the 4th quarter of the year.

Why This Matters for Dabawenyos

The free bus program responds to the city’s high demand for improved public transport and aims to reduce commuting costs for residents. It complements rather than replaces the existing Peak Hours Augmentation Bus Service (PHABS) meaning more buses on the streets during times of heavy traffic.
