Island hopping has become a trend in the recent years. Now, the trend is: the less traveled the island is, the better.
Seco Island in Tibiao, Antique deserves a spotlight for its unspoiled beauty. It lies in the Sulu Sea, 50 kilometers west of the Panay Mainland. “Seco” means “elbow” in the local dialect and for sure, you have seen drone pictures of it appearing like the shape of an elbow flexing the island’s beauty floating on clear, green and blue waters.
Although it’s a small island with minimal trees and vegetation, Seco island still flaunts a stretch of untouched white sand beach. There are no establishments in the area; only a number of open cottages. Nonetheless, aside from enjoying its waters, it is also a perfect place for picture-taking, beach bumming, and generally just relaxing after a long boat ride.
Camping is allowed in the place but you’ll have to bring your own camping gears. Please be reminded also that there is no toilet, no shower, no electricity, no buildings, no phone coverage – there is literally nothing else than sand, sun and wind on Seco.
The island though isn’t famous for swimming, instead it is known as a good spot for kite surfing. In fact, Yahoo Philippines considered Seco Island as one of the top five kiteboarding spots in the Philippines. Accordingly, the category level for kiteboarding is three to advance.
For kite surfers, the island provides consistent strong winds that could propel surfers while on their surfboards. The shallow waters with sandbanks are perfect for jumping and aerial tricks. Indeed, the place can quench surfers’ thirst for thrill and a new level of adventure.
