Taking crucial steps to make access to healthcare easier, the Batangas Provincial Government under Gov. Hermilando Mandanas seeks to expand its Healthcare, Education, Livelihood, and Protection (HELP) to do just that. Leveraging on national healthcare provisions such as the Universal Health Care Act (Republic Act No. 11223), and ‘Libreng Laboratoryo, Konsulta, at Gamot Para sa Lahat’ (LAB for ALL), the implementation of this expansion will do wonders for the common people.
The expansion includes purchases of additional ambulance units and diagnostic equipment, and the hiring of more employees to bolster healthcare operations within the region. Additionally, the governor inaugurated a new provincial healthcare facility in the municipality of Bauan, which will serve around 90,000 of its residents. The facility is equipped with laboratory services that include microscopy, serology, immunology, complete blood count (CBC), and blood chemistry.
Although the program puts a significant amount of strain on the government’s funds, the pending implementation of the Supreme Court’s Manandas-Garcia ruling, which allocated additional funds from the National Government’s collection of tax will greatly help in the decentralization of LGUs.
The Batangas LGU’s commitment and subsequent efforts to continue expanding free healthcare services prove its dedication towards the well-being of its residents, pursuing avenues that will provide additional funding to sustain its healthcare services.
