With the people’s adherence to the rules and regulations being implemented, it is not impossible to stay at ZERO CASE until today.
Bohol, a lovely province of the Philippines, has no confirmed active coronavirus disease. Though the COVID-19 Case Tracker would say 1, it is not a current case. Yes, the patient was confined at a private hospital in Tagbilaran City, the patient has long been discharged and has returned to China.
After the first patient, no one tested positive in the whole island as of writing. Boholanos are really lucky to have been given immediate responses by the government and proper implementation of the rules and regulations were observed.
Being a Boholana myself, I could only thank the people for being so keen in following the government and my immense thanks to our government for acting promptly.
What have we been doing then?
1. ONE HOUSEHOLD – ONE PASS POLICY
Though working pass is different from quarantine pass, only one quarantine pass is given per household. This quarantine pass will be used upon your entry and exit to and from your barangay.
You will also need to present this quarantine pass to the guards of every establishment, market, and even public transportation. This allows everyone to limit the visit to public places.
2. EVERYONE IS TREATED AS ASYMPTOMATIC
Everyone is encouraged to treat everyone as someone who has the virus. This way, people will be more cautious and would distance themselves from people.
3. 10 PROVINCE RUN HOSPITALS ARE READY FOR MASS TESTING
Though there is no confirmed case yet, the government has been so quick to respond and applied for accreditation to conduct COVID-19 testing.
4. ONLINE CONTESTS ARE IMPLEMENTED
To make everyone’s stay at home more productive, the government has been conducting online contests for you to win prizes. One good example is the online Tiktok Contest.
5. KADIWA ON WHEELS (MOBILE MARKET)
Like the other major cities, Bohol also practice market on wheels. This would encourage the public to avoid social distancing to purchase wet goods.
6. SUSPENSION OF DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL AIR AND SEA TRAVELS
Ever since the threat of the virus in the whole nation was felt, the government automatically suspended all domestic and international air and sea travels.
No one was allowed to visit Bohol. Even if you’re a Boholano, you’re not allowed to come home for safety measures.
7. STRICT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ENHANCED COMMUNITY QUARANTINE
I say strictly because we are strict. We cannot leave our barangay unless with a valid reason, moreso is visiting other barangays.
The barangays are isolated and locked, and upon entry, you need to present yourself to the brgy. officials.
8. MANDATORY USE OF FACE MASKS
Leaving your premises isn’t allowed without your quarantine pass AND without wearing of face masks.
It is mandatory to wear your face mask when leaving your homes because failure to do so would be subject to explanation to the brgy. officials.
9. REGULATION OF OPERATING HOURS FOR BUSINESSES
Instead of the usual mall hours, malls are discouraged to operate until 6PM, even wet markets and sari-sari stores.
Most supermarkets also open at 10AM until 6PM, or otherwise.
10. CLOSURE OF ESTABLISHMENTS THAT DON’T SELL NECESSARY GOODS
Only establishments that sell basic goods, food, drinks, and medicines are the only ones allowed to operate. Some fastfood chains have also closed, even department stores.
However, just because the aforementioned have been observed, unless you follow them, it is still impossible to stay at ZERO.
If you’re reading this, please follow the Boholanos, stay safe and follow the government. We’ll all get through this.
