Amidst being (technically) COVID-FREE as of writing, Bohol is not giving this virus a chance to penetrate her land.
With the scare of the possible cases of coronavirus amongst the OFWs who were repatriated, the Province of Bohol is immediately looking for ways to stop the scare.
The Provincial Government of Bohol is planning to conduct 1,400 swab tests per week to contain the spread of this pandemic in the island. Out of 1.4 million people, the provincial government aims to test 28,000 of them, said Dr. Yul Lopez, assistant provincial health officer and Capitol’s spokesperson on COVID-19-related issues.
“Out of the 1.4 million Boholanos, we should be able to test 28,000 for it to be significant,” he said.
While the province is still unable to conduct tests, these real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) swab samples will be sent to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
However, Dr. Lopez did not specify as to when this initiative will be taking effect. He only confirmed that 700 COVID-19 test kits were already distributed to Rural Health Units across the province for use among severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and influenza-like illness (ILI) patients.
