The Supreme Court announced Tuesday that 8,241 people passed the 2020-2021 Bar Exams dubbed the “Biggest Bar Ever.”
According to 2020/2021 Bar exams Chair Justice Marvic Leonen, this represents 72.28% of the total 11, 402 law graduates who took the Bar exams last February 4 and 6, following a 2-year suspension due to the coronavirus outbreak.
A passing rate of 72.28% is a record high, though the highest in history was the 1954 Bar with 75.17%.
There are 761 exemplary passers among the 8,241 who completed the tests, scoring 85-90 percent on the Bar exams. Fourteen bartenders were recognized for their outstanding performance, with grades of more than 90%, according to Leonen.
There was no traditional notification of the top ten passers, as there had been in prior batches. Instead, the Supreme Court honored Bar examinees who demonstrated “exemplary achievement,” defined as a grade of 85 percent or higher on the exam.

Law schools were also ranked on two levels: the percentage of pass rate and the number of examinees who performed exceptionally well.
With just over two months since the exams ended, this is the quickest turnaround for the checking of the Bar that we’ve seen so far.
This was also the first time the Supreme Court switched from a handwritten exam in one testing center to a digitalized one in 31 testing sites across the country using dedicated software.
In view of COVID-19 constraints, the high court opted for a two-day exam spaced one day apart instead of the regular four-day exam on Sundays.
The successful Bar examinees will take their oath on May 2, 2022.
